How to Fix the "A DNS Entry Already Exists" Error in cPanel

Error explanation

Sometimes, when attempting to add an additional domain to the cPanel of your hosting plan, you may encounter the following error:

Error: (XID jxpxtb) A DNS entry for [your_domain] already exists. You must remove this DNS entry from this server or all servers in the DNS cluster to proceed.

This error means that the domain DNS zone has already been added in the server. This can happen if:

1. The domain is already added to the DNS Manager.

and/or

2. The domain is already added to cPanel as an add-on domain. This can happen if, for example, you have multiple hosting plans and the domain has already been added to one of them. However, even if you have only one plan, double-check the "Domains" section in cPanel to ensure that the domain hasn't already been added.

The same domain cannot be added to the system more than once. Therefore, if it has already been added to the DNS manager and/or cPanel, you must first remove it from there before trying again.

Next, we will look at how you can do this.

Delete the domain from your DNS manager

Note: Removing a domain from the DNS manager will result in the permanent deletion of all associated DNS records.

If your domain is added to DNS manager, you can remove it by following these steps:

  1. Login to your client area;

  2. In the left vertical menu, select Services--->DNS;

  3. Click "DNS manager";

  4. You will see the list of added domains. Click the trash can icon next to the domain that you want to remove.

After that, you can try to add a domain to the cPanel.

Delete the domain from cPanel

This step is relevant if you have multiple hosting plans and the domain has already been added to one of them. In such a case, you will not be able to add it to a different plan until you remove it from the previous one.

To remove domain from the cPanel, follow these instructions:

  1. Login to your client area;

  2. Choose your Web Hosting(cPanel) service;

  3. Press the button “Access Control Panel” on the left menu and then “Click here to access control panel“.

  4. Click "Domains" in the corresponding section

  5. Click "Manage"

  6. Click "Remove Domain"

  7. Click "Yes, Remove This Domain" to agree to delete it.
